Sometimes a scale model does not have to be technically complicated, or has a large format with many moving parts to be a very nice addition to your collection.
My story behind this model begins a few weeks ago, when I see pop up on Ebay a custom generator set and it really starts when its turns out that I'm the highest bidder.
This scale model of the Caterpillar 60 Generator Set in scale 1:50 appears to be a very limited edition of only 10 pieces released by Messrs Ad Gevers and Ben Gelijk (Operating under the name "BAGE" or B(en)A(d)GE (lijk/vers) in the early nineties of the past century.
Inquiries with Ad Gevers yielded a lot of additional information, an original spec sheet and the sales brochure and finally some original old photos from his archive about the realization of this project.
Through a relationship working at Philips, Eindhoven in The Netherlands, who supplied the very special plastic base material, the gentlemen converted the construction drawing into a very exact replica of the Caterpillar 50-60 Generator Set.
Only two units in the "60" and eight units in the "50" version were built. And now, after wandering through England and America, this unique model with construction number #2 is back in the Netherlands almost 20 years later! #GREAT!
At the end of the eighties, Caterpillar developed a new series of compact (Diesel) Generator Sets. Under the slogan: "POWER where you need it, when you need it", the new generation of Caterpillar Generator Sets with a capacity of up to 400kW is introduced to the market.
The smallest Caterpillar 50-60 Generator Set contains the Caterpillar 3114 Diesel Engine and the newly developed Caterpillar SR4 Generator. Together good for an output of 50 or 60 kW depending on the chosen version.
