The Caterpillar 797 was introduced in 1998 and only produced in the USA. The 797 has two Caterpillar 3524B High Displacement EUI twelve-cylinder engines providing 3211 hp.

Subsequently, Caterpillar has since developed the 797B, 797F Tier 2 and since 2019 the current 797F Tier 4 is the latest addition to the 797 series.

At present, the Caterpillar 797F Tier 4 Mining Truck is the flagship of the 797 family. Powered by a Caterpillar C175-20 ACERT Engine providing 4000 hp, an operating weight of 1.375.000 lb. and a Nominal Payload Capacity of 400 tons a serious piece of machinery in the class of Mining Truck made by Caterpillar.

Of the 797 series Mining Truck, in addition to the 797 and 797B (NZG), there are 1:50 scale models of the 797F Tier 2 in two color versions (Cat Yellow and Mining White) from Norscot and Diecast Masters finally introduced in 2020 in their " High Line Series" with the arrival of the 797F Tier 4 the last scale model.
