The first Caterpillar 906 Wheel Loader was introduced in 1998 and was manufactured in the UK. Equipped with a Caterpillar 3034NA Engine good for 60 hp.
Subsequently, Caterpillar has since developed the 906H, 906M and since 2022 is the 906 Next Generation (Next Gen) the latest addition to the 906 series.
At present, the Caterpillar 906 “Next Gen” Wheel Loader is the flagship of the 906 family. Powered by a Caterpillar C2.8 ACERT Engine providing 74 hp, an operating weight of 12628.0 lb. and a bucket capacity of 1.24 yd3. A first for this class size, new in-cab-programmable kick outs with high-definition rotary sensors mounted to the loader arms better protect operators from unwanted shock and vibration due to buckets striking the ground and/or hitting dump stops at max height. Proper kick out operation also saves up to 20% of bucket cutting edge life. In short a simple and intuitive clever and all-round piece of machinery in the class of Compact Wheel Loaders made by Caterpillar.
Scale models of the 906 series Wheel Loader have been released in recent years in scale 1:50th of the 906 and 906H (Norscot). Subsequently followed by the 906M (Diecast Masters). I secretly hope that Diecast Masters will also be allowed to release the current 906 “Next Gen” version in 1:50 scale.
