In this "Making-of MIDWESTERN M583c Pipelayer" we will show how this custom model will be achieved.
Ad shares his building skills through the photos with little notes guiding us in the construction process. Gradually it shows the making of a unique model by using the donor Caterpillar 583K pipelayer from Classic Construction Models (CCM) in 1:48th scale to create his one of kind MIDWESTERN M583c Pipelayer.

Classic Construction Models (CCM) released the Caterpillar 583K Pipelayer in 2020. Unfortunately, this scale model turned out to be incompatible with the 1:1 scale model on a number of fundamental points and along the way Ad discovered more and more deviations and thus started the idea for this hand-built MIDWESTERN M583c Pipelayer in which He could express himself down to the smallest details. #minimasterpiece
CHALLENGE!
Ad started with the purchase of the 1:48th scale Caterpillar 583K Pipelayer from CCM. Initially the idea was to implement a limited number of improvements such as the new Counterweights and the ROPS. But at the end of this project it turned out that Ad would end up with a "small" 35 adjustments. Nevertheless, the donor 583K model always formed the solid basis for the realization of this project.
Soon after unpacking the Caterpillar 583K Pipelayer from CCM it turned out that their scale model was not equipped with individual counterweights but two "blocks" that represented the counterweights. In addition, the correct number of 13 counterweights was also missing but there were 2 x 6 = 12!
So Ad decided to release a very complete Caterpillar 583K counterweight kit via cADSttachments kit #66, which, with thirteen individual counterweights, is an exact replica of the original set of counterweights in 1:1.
