This weekend I received for review the first scale model from the new "Caterpillar Vintage Series" released by Diecast Masters and so I immediately made the time to take a series of pictures of this newest addition to my collection,
The "Caterpillar Vintage Series" scale models pay a homage to the rich history from the earliest Caterpillar Earthmoving equipment. Kick-of is with the Caterpillar 966A Wheel Loader and the Caterpillar D7C Dozer.
My first impression: The Caterpillar 966A Wheel Loader within the new “Caterpillar Vintage Series” from Diecast Masters in 1:50th scale is a welcome addition in my Caterpillar 966 Wheel Loader series. Great display packaging and loads of details, like the original Caterpillar operator umbrella, adding extra value for money! This is a must have for every Caterpillar collector.
The Caterpillar 966A Wheel Loader was introduced in 1960 and only produced in the USA. The 966A has a Caterpillar D333 turbo, four-cylinder engine producing 140 flywheel horsepower (FWHP).
The 966A was given a 33A serial number prefix. In 1962, Caterpillar increased the wheelbase to 122 inches. Production of the 966A ended in 1963. The Caterpillar 966A was replaced by the Caterpillar 966B.
Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 2,000 Caterpillar 966A wheel loaders have been produced.
